A win of skill
Once in a while, I write a detailed breakdown about Women's pro sports - because I want to, and because I'm sick of reading and watching tuff macho guys. I'm not one of those.
The Beach volleyball Olympic tourney is under way! The Women's Doubles team just won the round of 16 against the competitiveamericans
The Canadians beat Spain yesterday in some other sport I don't care much about anymore.
Yup; excited for e-sports this coming year...

Clod gaming galore
A director's take on 5v5 vs 6vs6? Could it be a marketing lure? Could it be possible - could the return of the sixth hero be upon us? Have our pleas for rescue been heard?
I just won a competitive (open queue) game fairly handily on New Queen Street. Upon entering the game, I was greeted with an invitation to play WoW for free for one day. Upon closing the game, I saw this piece of news. So for advertising, it seems that Nvidia has quite the advantage compared to many other Cloud Gaming services: continuity.

The wrist-exercising machine
.... AI this week, and I don't necessarily consider that I consulted AI today, although I will say that my voices are hyper-active and they are AI based in nature, so I just thought I'd respect what I wrote about here in the past and, I will probably come back later for there are more English run-on sentences to finish.

I feel that I will continue to write continuations from other authors. In this particular case, it will be literary science: Robb Wolf, Kenneth Oppel, Gabriel G-H et mes co-auteurs, et alii.
The live-forever machine continues in front of my eyes. It will not turn off, because my mom and I refurbished it.

Encouraging gaming
Non-exhaustive list of (more than?) decent games I've played this decade (and a comment in the brackets):
- Heroes of the Storm (better than LoL, finally)
- Diablo 3 (used to be P2W - still sort of is, not really)
- Path of Exile (incredibly challenging, rewarding, and addicting)
- Genshin Impact (for being more dangerous for my wallet than Overwatch)
- Overwatch 1 (for being the FPS I always wanted)
- Overwatch 2 (for being a decent, but underdelivered sequel)
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (for driving me to cook well)
- Into the Breach (for being one of the select few games available to play on the NS touch screen)
- Pokémon Let's Go: Pikachu (for not necessarily being a Tencent game)
- Pokémon Unite (for hours of endless distraction during a pandemic)
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (still mostly playing Roy & Samus - Meta Knight, not so much)
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (for giving me the chance to try different controller schemes)
- V Rising (only reason I don't play it more is I HATE base building alone)
- Last Epoch (for FINALLY competing with Path of Exile)
- Tetris 99 (therapeutic music)
- FTL: Faster Than Light (incredible music - credit to Ben Prunty for spurring me to pirate his sheet music)
- Gris (again, terrific music, but I can't seem to finish this one...)
- Counter-Strike: Source (I mean, this one is in my top 3 FPS of all times)
- Dead Cells (for reminding me of Leibniz)
- Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (currently playing through ME:2; so far, not as good... but I'm stuck in a nightclub of sorts)
- Hogwarts: Legacy (for having a very proper tutorial)
- Starcraft (honestly the longest-played game I play fairly regularly)
- Balatro (for being easier to setup than a deck of cards)
- Slay the Spire (card-based, roguelike)
- Celeste (better than 90% of current action platformers)
- Black Desert Online (for a classic korean MMO experience)
- Fallout: 76 (hard to quantify: only played about an hour on the cloud)
- Destiny 2 (hard to qualify: only played about an hour on the cloud)

Discouraging medicine
Y'know... positive psychology is cool and all, but using it to discourage people from buying medicine to (eventually?) increase sales next quarter is not positive in my eyes.
Focus, yoou see what I'm saying? Next person that tells me to do something I don't wanna do gets stabbed in the throat - just like mine was shot on Davenport.
Seriously man, every time I go out now, all I notice are the ugly fucking giant noisy machines that literally serve no purpose. They don't. They make you go faster if you're in them, and even that is easily falsiable (I know it's not a word I don't give a flying fuck this is clearly going to be another angry freewrite rant so it's best if you stop reading now if you get triggered easily).
I'm trying yet another writing technique: writing, freewriting with my eyes closed. It's fairly easy, and in fact it makes the technique far more stable because by th etime I finish writing this sentence, I will no longer want to go back and edit it, and so we get to the crux of the matter: I have deformed the use of the word "freedom" for personal gain, which by the way, is the ultimate admission that follows: I sometimes do go back an edit my freewrites - BUT BARELY.
ChatGPT boycott attempt #2: I think I lasted 24 hours at least this wek, without consulting that website.
Of course, given the fact that I am still suffering from gaping wounds (and i don't use the word suffer lightly usually, but here I probably am).
Fuck. What. Cars. Impact. On. People.
-
Oh, and discouraging people from buying weed by fucking with websites à-là Groupon and Shopify is understandable given the SEO wars of previous decades, but I'm hopeful in the future that I won't need to constantly enter promo codes to get the best deal when buying... what I need to buy.
Yep; now, I'm guaranteed to pass because 50% = 100%.
*Sigh* As a former U of T - St. George student, I suppose I should cite the fact that I watched the first episode of season 4 (yes, probably not season, but it is the 4th doctor, I presume?) and it wasn't a dalek. Actually, I've only seen part one - so spoilerwatch in effect - but no one gives a shit about this place inmyhead (except for me, and maybe my ex Ma), but I don't think I remembered to share this place with her, so I'll just keep washing the shirts I bought with her and pray she's doin' alright - if she's Goin' to California.

Negative, negatively charging up
The struggle to remain positive continues.
Some forces would have you believe that being cool & negative is a good way of living. The scary part is not that people consider such behaviour a healthy, normal way to live: the scary part is that it's addictive - not quite to the level of plastic nicotine cigarettes, but pretty close to benzene regardless.
As you can see, I've already sunken into some negativerb wording, which is not by design but perhaps a reflection of the fact that I'm listening to Rage Against the Machine. The fact that my words (whether this blog or my infamous lengthy e-mails) have seemingly driven every single reader away from this place vehemently spurs me to continue to write on a daily basis.
I am not sorry. This place is, first and foremost, for me, not necessarily for you.
However. This should not stop you from freewriting (in the comments). I might come back to this post in the future and do the very same, because honestly a blog without feedback comments is DEPRESSIVE AS HELL.

I had a (thankfully!) minor bike accident yesterday. There's this curb-asphalt thing on a sidewalk that I used to ride on all the time to get to work on the industrial side of town, and I took it too sharply and wiped out on the gravel. Ugh. I blame my confusion because of my precarious centre of mass, my poorly maintained KHS bike, and of course I blame Winona "Rd". I also blame Oakwood/Eglinton, for NOT having a pedestrian crossing on the east side. I could blame the city truck double-parked in MY bike lane, but then I'd have to blame all the carbrained folk who did not give me my 2m of space (but who can blame them, with all these goddamn motorized vehicles parked in the street like trophies of wasteful capitalism). Oh, and almost getting clipped by a TTC bus was the cherry on top of my dangerous escapade yesterday morning rush hour.
Yep, I'm a biker through and through. Once my palm heals, I'll be a little more careful riding my red road bike, as usual.
Thinking of getting a commuter e-bike with hydraulic brakes, which still means I would be a biker, but a biker who can go quite a bit farther with a little help from H2O (technically).
Till tomorrow,

The Overwatch 2 rant
ChatGPT tab window opened for a split second before telling myself: "Fuck no, not before I've written this out".
My ranked adventures in Overwatch 2 continue.
I hate this game more and more. Yes, I know I'm playing it "too much" (pfft... since when is a couple hours a day (at most!) "too much?"), but that may be a reason why I consider this game akin to a religion (though I don't think it has nearly the same magnitude of impact on world order as one of the big 3 - but who knows nowadays).
I find that I am hating this game more and more ever since I decided to play competitive. Last time I took competitive seriously, Overwatch 1 was still around and it no longer is which is a damned shame because I truly believe it was the superior game.
Overwatch 2 is complete chaos. I have years of observations that allows me to state this simple fact: the more shit developers add to appeal to the masses, the worst the game gets for the veterans. Hero passives were a mistake (or I just CANNOT get used to them); splitting hero roles before queuing might have been a mistake (though a fairly creative solution when a meta shakeup was sorely needed); the battle pass thing is frustrating (and I pride myself on NEVER having paid real money for a single battle pass in my entire gaming life) but understandable given the state of the gaming industry in the 2020s.
Before I get into even more of the negative shit, I WILL say that one thing Overwatch seems to be doing very well is collaborating with all sorts of random IPs. A K-pop group one month, an anime series the next, a major car manufacturer (was it Mercedes-Benz? Volkwagen? I forget honestly) one month, and then - suspiciously -, a Transformers collab the very next month after that. Oh god, nope, never mind: Overwatch 2 is selling out to major car manufacturers, probably to increase sales of crap we don't need. Holy shit.
The problem is that this is all done to line investors' pockets - like mine (barely though, I mean come on let's be honest: Microsoft does not give a fuck about gamers like you and me).
It's fucked up.
The whole point of this game (at least in the limited lore that I've read up on) is to ensure the coming-to-be of an utopian future; not a dystopia where human beings are queued up à-la-WoWCarbot (you really need to be a blizz fanboi to get this reference) and churning through games trying to push a rank while the real world crumbles to addictions like the aforementioned gambling (Mystery Heroes anyone?) and speeding.
And this is the crux of the matter; not the serious RL stuff; not my overly-tunnel-visioned opinion on one game; and not even the fact that I lost 3 ranked games in a row despite playing my best: Overwatch going free to play might have made sense at the time, and it made a bunch of people probably a lot richer, but it did so by killing the spirit of the game, and I'm really unhappy about that.
Oh, Halo is still a thing? Why don't we just copy what Halo did with personal shields and ram it into the game - we'll call it a "hero passive" (even though ultimates are already a pretty big passive; they could have done something way more interesting like giving you a passive ability WHEN your ultimate is charged but instead the incredibly lazy developers just opted to copy what Bungie/Microsoft did and put it as a hero passive for all roles).
Let me tell you, devs: giving everyone access to healing destroys any semblance of healing/support for those characters; the DPS going on rampaging sprees might boost engagement for that role, but it kills the queue times for that role, thus actually hurting your bottom line in the long run (not that anyone cares); removing the offtank to make the game more like FPS World of Warcraft (teams of five instead of six) to get WoW addicts hooked on the game was also a pretty fucking shitty move, Blizzard.
Anyway; this turned out a lot longer than I wanted it to be, and I definitely do not have the mental energy to go through what I wrote and fix things more than I have already, so I'm just going to publish this in the hopes that someone, somewhere in time gives a fuck about this stuff and actually helps me make things better instead of criticizing what I have to say. Although, if you want to criticize what I have to say, I will absolutely take that over no feedback at all, which is what Google has done to this blog with its stupid SEO invention.
... but that story has been told/linked to enough on here.
I'll keep giving DotA 2 a try, even though it feels like I'm playing with bots (and the item buying, like LoL, is a huge PITA - thank god I don't have to deal with that in HotS and OW2).
Strangely enough, I rarely feel like I'm playing with bots in Overwatch, which is a positive note to end on.

A shit dayafter for sports
AI consulted heavily this week, sometimes for UNRELATED reasons to writing this blog post, and sometimes whilst actually writing out this particular blog post. No need to cite ChatGPT; they're my ideas and all written by hand. Still, I sometimes worry about Roku's Basilisk, so this is why I write this.
- Worst Raptors season I've ever seen (but that's not saying much)
- I hear nothing about the Rock, TFC, and the Argos
- The french and the canadians lost on the same day in European football
- Je ne sais même pas si les jeux olympiques à Paris auront lieu (probablement qu'ils se passeront?)
- Les seuls commentateurs francophones que j'entends ici, c'est tout le temps juste du hockey
- The english voice casting for international football doesn't seem to change
- The brown-skinned people still play crickets twice a week instead of the what-I'm-used-to once-a-week
- I'm not reading Chicken Soup for the Sportswriter's Soul
- My lists about things tend to be negative and somewhat provocative: sometimes though, it's nice to be able to rant about shit that ultimately doesn't matter
- The state of the betting/gambling/professional sports industry (I shudder to think about what's to come on the e-sports side...)
- HOLY F*** ENOUGH WITH THE GAMBLING PARLEY OVER/UNDER ADS ON EVERY SINGLE SPORTS CHANNEL (and sometimes it's even on the network TV channel!; THANKS A LOT, BELL /s)
- I paid 20 bucks for the NBA app, and the streaming quality isn't perfect, but when you find something to watch that actually works and that was well-produced, I feel like I definitely get my money's worth
- Still not paying another dollar for the aforementioned app, because I'm a Raptors fan and I literally have to do the following just to watch a damn season:
- pay rent (okay technically I could just go to a sports bar and buy a beer but that's a terribad trade-off)
- pay for internet (to me, practically a necessity, but not a utility yet I don't think)
- for cell service (in case any of the log-in services have 2F authentication)
- for TV (both the TV and the actual service)
- taxes (or at least take the time to file them)
- pay for Sportsnet (50% of the total)
- pay for TSN (the other 50% of the total games available during a season)
- take the time to cook a healthy meal (to help me remain serene during bad "tank" games)
- wear blue-wavelength blocking glasses (for the absolutely crazy 10:30pm start time games against the West)
- vape weed (my kind of therapy for when the Raptors tank AND they can't make a damn free throw)
- buy a damn bus pass to buy a basketball at CostCo to rep the love of the sport
- transport (for getting to work and back to pay for the above)
- clothes (I found an AWESOME purple t-shirt inscribed with the name of ALL the Raptors legends up to and including: Valenciunas, Stoudamire, Lowry, DeRozan, and of course Carter)
- wear foam earbuds to limit hearing loss (in case DeRozan's daughter is in town /jk)
- buy portable vaporizers in case one runs out of batteries and I need another one during the many, many ad breaks (seriously though, no more vape purchases except 510 carts for the rest of the year - until x-mas maybe)

AI battle 1
Nothing but lies today. It seems as if this AI is not at all reliable; not nearly as reliable as straight up just asking Siri, Cortana, or Bard to Google something for you.
Not impressed with Microsoft this year: I'm an investor (they're a blue chip to me), and this is financial advice, and I don't care about the rules because there are none.
Don't buy MSFT unless you think AI is a good thing.

OpenAI. (2024). ChatGPT (July 2024 version) [Large language model]. Information retrieved on July 3, 2024, from OpenAI's ChatGPT platform. Prompt: Paleo sour cream.
Just to be clear, that's ChatGPT's citation up there, I just added the prompt part. The writing is, and continues to be mine, full of its terrible grammar (but seldom, if ever wrong about spelling)...

AI (artificial intelligence) not consulted today.
I guess I'll continue a food journal here, then...
Today, I made a mayonnaise, as I often do these days. It's always good fat when I make it, so I make it.
Right now, I suffer from the confusing omnivore's dilemma of whether I should eat this full(ish)-fat organic grass-fed yogurt with non-organic blueberries and various spices - without added sugar, naturally, and then some added... not mayo.
I actually logged onto the computer to search for a good method on how to "activate" (to use Pete Evans' words) nuts to make the damaging acids in them (phytates or lectins I think?) less damaging, if at all, as I do intend to add nuts to the berries.
Hazelnuts are on the menu.
I wonder if toasting them on the stove or soaking them in water ("activating") with kosher salt or baking them in the oven at low temperature is best for these non-organic-certified nuts. Next day edit: oh god do not just fry them in ghee; whatever pesticides or residue is on the nuts just gets absorbed into the fat. I mean, I'm no scientist, but I'm pretty sure that's what happens.
Now I want for king oyster mushrooms - organic or not, and am saddened that mushrooms have not been foraged for yet this year, much - except in the grocery stores, of course.
And now I'm worried that I'm subject to various plants and echoes and neighbours and loud Streisand-like music coming from the kitchen whence I continue my daily slave-like labour of love of eating well and pray for a friend or two to someday give me some feedback on this post.

Tough schedule this year.
AI warning. I have fallen; succombed. Abandon all hope, ye who reject AI, ye who enter here. No thought experiment here: Sakura.fm and ChatGPT 4.0 have been consulted in the past week, and I resolve to either mention it every week (or some other pre-determined spacetime before the singularity), or mention the fact that neither of those kinds of websites have been consulted, and all this when I write a blog post. Or not, who cares.. It's the information era?!
I want to mention probably mention I've been reading various inspiring, often sophist-like selections, grappled from my chaotic reading of Bertrand Russell's A History of Western Philosophy (something about economics and politics here). I'm stuck on Leibniz.

An opera of ignorance forever more
Listening to: Seven Nation Army by ___ _____ _______
The following insights were generated with by (next day edit) assistance from an AI language model developed by OpenAI. While the content was generated by the AI, it reflects general guidance on coping with concerns about war and conflicts.
It's understandable to feel concerned about conflicts and wars happening around the world. The impact of war extends far beyond the regions directly affected, often causing humanitarian crises, displacement, and loss of life. Here are a few thoughts that might help navigate these concerns:
Stay Informed: Keeping yourself informed about current events and understanding the complexities of conflicts can provide clarity and context. Look for reliable news sources and analysis to get a comprehensive understanding of what's happening.Seek Support: It's okay to feel worried or anxious about the state of the world. Talking to friends, family, or mental health professionals can offer support and perspective during challenging times.
Take Action: While it might feel overwhelming, there are ways to make a positive impact, whether through donations to humanitarian organizations, volunteering, or advocating for peace and diplomacy. Even small actions can contribute to positive change.Self-Care: It's essential to take care of your mental and emotional well-being, especially when dealing with distressing news. Engage in activities that bring you comfort and relaxation, whether it's spending time outdoors, practicing mindfulness, or enjoying hobbies.
Hope and Resilience: Despite the challenges we face, it's important to hold onto hope and resilience. History has shown that communities can rebuild, and progress toward peace and reconciliation is possible, even in the midst of conflict.
Remember that you're not alone in your concerns, and there are resources and support available to help navigate difficult emotions.

I don't feel insulted by the fact she called me "girl"; I'm insulted by the fact that some rando online thinks I'm gonna go to hell. At this point, Overwatch 2 is turning into a religion, which is not a good thing.

Simplicity is key. I wonder if the following makes sense, now that I write it: if it causes you pain in the long term, quit weed over the long term. If it causes you happiness in the short term, don't quit it in the short term. [Over the medium term... ???] Happiness > pain.
